1. Do I need to pre-register before coming to class?
Nope! You can just show up to your first class unannounced! But if you'd prefer, there is an online registration for the classes through South Fayette Township. Visit: www.southfayettepa.com/recreation. If you choose to pay at the class, cash/check are accepted. See the Pricing page for specific information.
2. What is a kettlebell? What makes it so unique?
A kettlebell is basically a bowling ball with a handle. One of its unique characteristics is its displaced center of gravity, which engages more stabilizer muscles than traditional weight training. "The reason for the surge in kettlebell training is that it gets back to basic training that requires functional, whole body fitness...a great way to get a whole body workout in a relatively short period of time." (American Council on Exercise) But you've got to try it to find out! Check out the Calendar to see when classes are offered.
3. What do I need to bring to class?
Each participant should bring a yoga mat and a water bottle to every class. It's important to stay well-hydrated during these tough, but fun workouts! For kettlebell formats, bring a kettlebell, anywhere between 5 and 20 pounds based on your fitness level. For Cardio Kicks & Sticks, bring a set of dumbbells, probably 5-12 pounds each. If you don't own a kettlebell, see the next question. All other equipment for classes will be provided as needed.
4. I don't own or I forgot a kettlebell. Should I not come to class?
That's no problem at all! Katie has close to a dozen kettlebells at the class. Just show up a few minutes early to select the weight and size you feel most comfortable using. You're welcome to try the class before you buy your own kettlebell, just to make sure you like it.
5. I'm not sure I'm going to like the class and I don't want to get stuck paying for it.
First of all, you will like it! But, just to put your mind to ease, you can sign the waiver before class and wait to pay until the end. This way, you can apply the first class toward the purchase of a punch card if you'd like to return. And if this workout is not for you, you only have to pay for one class. We like to keep it simple!
6. What happens if I buy a punch card and class is cancelled?
If the instructor cancels the class, you will be notified by email. Anyone holding a punch card can use the missed class anytime, even in another session. It doesn't expire! But if all classes ran as scheduled in a session, which is almost always the case, and you didn't use all your punches, you cannot use them in the next session. They are only good for the session for which you purchased them.
7. What if I missed the start of a new session? Can I start late?
Of course! You are always welcome! You can sign up for a punch card at any time during the session, even if the session has already started, or you can just drop in for $12 at anytime!
8. I'm new to working out and everyone will know what to do.
There are no mirrors! Everyone will be working hard to become stronger and more fit; they won't even be paying attention to what you can and can't do. But the instructor will take into account the various fitness levels and experience present in the room on a given day and specially cater each class to meet individual fitness needs. Read the Testimonials to hear about the various fitness levels that participate in the class regularly.
9. I'd like to try a Zoom class. How does that work?
Email Katie at sfworkout99@gmail.com to let her know you're interested in Zooming your first class. She'll walk you through the steps and even practice Zooming with you if you're new to this format. Visit the Calendar page to choose which workout (s) you'd like to Zoom, then Paypal or Venmo your payment. Be sure to write which class and date you'd like in the memo line. Once payment is received, you will be registered for the class and will receive a Zoom link at least 30 minutes before the class. And if you see a format you like but you're not available at that time, Paypal or Venmo your payment and specify "recording" and the class you want to do in the memo line. You will receive the recording within three hours of the end of the live class and can keep it for 48 hours to complete on your schedule. It's super convenient and a great way to get your workouts in!
